12 year old grandson , intermittent fevers

08-09-2010

My 12 year old grandson has been having intermittent fevers of 102 - 103. He also is having headaches and extreme sleepiness. He has not desire to eat or drink. He has been camping recently. My gp has suggested West Nile Virus. He took blood tests but they were negative. Does Viral West Nile show up in a blood test. At what point are his symptoms serious? Is there any other condition these symptoms could indicate? He has had symptoms for about 2 weeks and the fevers and headaches and other symptoms I mentioned are getting worse. What shall we do?

Thanks for using this forum..

Fever persisting and with increased sleepiness are not good signs and may be suggestive of meningitis or some other issues..I would suggest you to see a infectious specialist or a medicine person to cawrry on a detailed battery of test including CSF studies and treat the fever as these can turn nasty over time...

take care...
