Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders Question

11-12-2017

Hello!

I consulted an ENT specialist in my area and had my dry ear wax removed but was also told that I have ear canal eczema. He did not mention that this could be an infection. Is this an infection? Also, what kind of ointment should I use for it?

Eczema of the ear or Dermatitis of the ear canal is characterized by pruritis, scaling, flaking, and erythema of the skin of the external auditory meatus and ear canal. Dermatitis can be caused by exposure to allergens (contact dermatitis) or can be spontaneous

Treatment of ear eczema will depend on the cause and type of eczema, which will need to be diagnosed by
your GP.

If you have eczema inside the ear canal, you will need steroid drops, which will be prescribed by your doctor.
